Over the past several years, evidence-based literacy improvement programs have been implemented in districts across the country, including by Farmington Municipal Schools (FMS) in New Mexico. From adopting a common reading curriculum and revamping their ELA proficiency scales to providing professional development in the Science of Reading, FMS has done a lot of work over the past three years to raise reading achievement by 10 points.
Now that the groundwork has been laid, FMS educators are taking a close look at what’s been successful and where adjustments can be made to continue the momentum and progress.
During this webinar, FMS’s Director of Curriculum and Instruction Nicole Lambson and Jennifer Bowles, Director of Early Education, will share how they’re leaning into the data to answer and address questions including:
- What the “must-master” scales are that best predict proficiency
- Why literacy gains decline in both 5th and 8th grades
- Why there are performance variations among schools and student sub-groups
- How to better align classroom grading with state high-stakes assessments
Watch the webinar for tangible takeaways on what to measure, how to collaborate with principals and teachers, and how to turn “bubble” students (within a few points of proficient) into literacy success stories.
